Community Game Along: Fashion Games – How I Got Addicted to the Kardashian Games

Video Games

I recently saw that Dina from Moms Gonna Snap was participating in a community game along created by Chic Pixel and decided to join in on the fun! Each month is a new genre or developer that you can choose a game to play from. February’s theme was fashion games. Seeing as how about 70% of my wardrobe comes from Loot Crate, I was not looking forward to this theme. I didn’t even really know where to begin in my search for a game! Luckily, Chic Pixel gave a wide variety of choices in a genre I know little about.

I ended up choosing the Kim Kardashian: Hollywood game. Why? Because it was free. Yep, that about sums up my highly evolved criteria.

There are oodles of video games set in space. Oodles being a scientific term, here, falling somewhere between a wee bit and a crap-load. What makes this game different? Oh, a whole bunch, the most glaringly obvious being you are stark naked. Cosmochoria makes being naked in space not only interesting, but fun too!

Gears of War 4 was a game highly anticipated by my husband and I. We had discovered and played the Gears of War series back on the Xbox 360 and were anxious to see if the characters would carry over into this next step in the series. After all, didn’t Gears of War 3 wrap up the story? Weren’t the creatures that plagued their land gone for good?

Last year, my husband and his best friend were able to attend PAX South right here in San Antonio. If you don’t know about PAX, it is a conference for gaming. They feature games of all kinds including tabletop games, video games, card games, you name it! One of the games that my husband came home all excited about was Song of the Deep. He kept telling me that the graphics were beautiful and he thought it was a game that I would really enjoy. I was so excited when it was released for the PS4 and snatched it up.

So there I was, scrolling through my Facebook feed when out of nowhere shows up this ad claiming that The Walking Dead : A New Frontier was available to play now. What! I knew that there was a new season in the works, but I didn’t think it would be available yet! Merry Christmas to me!

The next day I went on the PlayStation Network and low and behold there is a day after Christmas flash sale. I was able to score a Telltale bundle which included both seasons of The Walking Dead game along with the Michonne chapter and a game called 7 Days to Die for $15! As Dwight Schrute would say…

The Novelist: A Game Review

Video Games

I recently wrote about my struggle to keep a balance in my home life and work life in my blog post Merry Fictional Blog Challenge. As a student teacher, I strived to be the very best that I could be for my students. I wanted to be seen as an equal to all the fantastic teachers I had the privilege of working with. Teachers who had been teaching for years. That self created pressure caused a lot of stress in my home life. Perhaps that is what drew me to The Novelist. It’s been sitting in my Steam library for quite awhile, metaphorically collecting dust. I’ve eyed it a few times, but this time it felt right.

This War of Mine : Game Review

Video Games

War is ugly. It is treacherous and dangerous and sometimes the innocent get hurt. This War of Mine is a game that dives into the ugly bits of war that we tend to push to the back of our minds. The parts of war that get swept under the rug. In This War of Mine you don’t play as the white knight crashing through the wall to kill the bad guy. You play as a the innocent family hiding in the corner of the room. The forgotten in a war between good and evil.

Pokemon Go! A New-Geek’s Perspective

Fandom Friday/ Video Games

Before we get started, go check out Kayla from Epicfied‘s Pokemon Q&A.

I grew up in the era where Pokemon reigned supreme. I, however, was not one of those kids who carried around their Pokemon cards wherever they went. I didn’t play Pokemon games on my Gameboy, and I definitely never watched the show. It wasn’t because I necessarily scoffed at the idea, it just never came up and I never pursued it. If you read my origin story part I, then you know that public judgement had something to do with it too.

It wasn’t until the release of Pokemon GO that I even thought about entering the world of Pokemon. I mean sure, they are cute (some of them), but I’m an adult. And I already have a plateful of fandoms to juggle. How could I broach entering a new one? Then I saw a lot of my geeky blogger friends playing and I thought I would give it a try.

Gone Home : Game Review

Video Games

Another in the long list of “to-play” games, I finally got my mitts on Gone Home when it was discounted during the Steam Summer Sale. This is the same sale where I happened to score Firewatch, if you recall. If you don’t recall, go check it out here! Gone Home has been one of those indie games that I have heard about since I started dabbling in indie gaming. I was super excited to experience the magic.

Firewatch : Game Review

Video Games

I have been stalking this game on Steam for awhile now. And I mean a long while. So when Steam had their summer sale not too long ago and I saw Firewatch on the list, I jumped at the chance to get it. I promptly downloaded it on our Alienware Alpha and played it…all afternoon. No joke. This game is the bees knees.
